What does "are so happy" mean?
When Mary was younger, she used to have a habit of asking, "Are so happy?"
{translation: are you happy?}
I took it as my constant reminder that we can always choose happiness.
How old are you?
I’m a child of the mid 70s :)
How old are your girls?
Mary was born in May 2005, three days before our first wedding anniversary. Juliana was born in January 2007. Joanna was born in March 2009, and baby Katherine was born in February 2011.
Where do you live?
We live in the beautiful Pacific Northwest in a town of around 60,000. We actually met here- I was working at a small, independent bookstore downtown and my husband began work there in September of 2003. We were “just friends” until that December, and got married in May 2004. :) After we were first married, we moved a couple hours away, to Portland, Oregon, which is an amazing city. I think both my husband and I still miss it a bit. After we had Birdie, we moved back “home” (I went to high school here and my parents still live here). It’s truly a fantastic place, and a wonderful place to raise children.
How/why did you get started blogging?
I initially began blogging as a way to keep far-flung friends, family, and participants informed about our wedding, but it quickly became a way to keep people informed about our new little one! I blogged Bunny’s pregnancy, and then sort of fell into the world of craft/mama blogging. Much to my surprise and delight, there were all these other mamas out there, sharing all kinds of information- it was an exciting time, and much of it seemed to be going on in Portland (where we were living at the time).
I started to shift the focus from being just family and friends to more of a…universal blogging approach. I changed blog homes several times. I’ve taken more than one extended break from blogging when it got overwhelming for me. Since I’ve been back this time I have felt nothing but delight and a sense of belonging, a sense of connection to all those other women out there.
Blogging has been such a gift. Not just somewhere to share my little craft successes (because only another crafter really appreciates it!) or how the girls grow and change, but somewhere I can connect at a soul level with others. For a person like me who is rather shy and private by nature, blogging has been the vehicle through which I’ve met some of the most kind, the most compelling, the most inspiring, the most warm and wonderful people of my life. What a joy!
